Looking for fall help!

POSITIONS: Farm Crew member, Delivery driver

IDEAL CANDIDATE: 

An energetic, detail-oriented person who can hustle doesn't mind getting their hands dirty, enjoys being outdoors and is not afraid of hard work! This person will aid in completing the necessary day-to-day tasks of a small scale flower farm. Previous experience with gardening or production-scale flower/vegetable farming is desirable but not required. Applicants who are open to making at least one flower delivery on Wednesday early mornings (hourly rate + gas stipend provided) are highly desired. Ability to work quickly yet effectively and have a willingness to learn is a must! Willingness to assist with garden rose care is a must.

AVAILABILITY:

Position is seasonal and part-time in nature and will run until early December or the ground freezes.

Availability on Monday and/or Tuesday is a must: duties include assisting with harvesting and processing flowers. Additional hours for other tasks can be other days.

Position is for 15-20 hours a week, with the potential to go up to 35 hours a week for people showing aptitude.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:  

- Weeding quickly and efficiently 
- Moving and spreading compost, fertilizer and removing plant debris
- Foliar spraying 
-  Planting throughout the season of various flowers and shrubs
- Assisting in flipping beds
- Digging and broadforking
- Assisting with fulfilling weekly orders as needed 
- Pruning shrubs and perennials as needed 
- Understanding and performing safe and responsible use of tools and equipment 
- Assisting with end-of-season farm clean up tasks such as removing crop residues from the beds, mulching, storing supports, etc.  
- Push mowing and string trimming 
- Washing buckets 

- Deliveries as mentioned above

WHAT YOU CAN LEARN:

- How to grow and care for garden roses, dahlias, in addition to a variety of flower crops throughout the season

- Proper stage of harvest and post-harvest treatment of flower crops 

- How to harvest efficiently and accurately 

- Processing and bunching flowers with an eye for quality control 

- Understanding and administering proper watering for all plants in the field and hoop houses 


REQUIREMENTS: 

- Must be able and willing to lift 40+ lbs. repeatedly

- Must be able and willing to hustle and be on your feet during the entire shift

- Must be able and willing to work in all types of weather conditions, including chilly temps, high heat, humidity, and light rain 

- Must feel comfortable and able to safely navigate uneven, muddy farm spaces and terrain

- Must have your own vehicle/transportation to the growing space in Quakertown, PA

- Must possess effective and positive communication skills 

- Must be goal-oriented and self-motivated in order to work independently on a regular basis
